Upholstered furniture holds body oils, perspiration, dander, dust, cooking residue and smoke deep in its fibers and padding, and unlike flooring it sits at breathing height and in direct skin contact. It is also expensive to replace, and quality frames commonly outlast several cleanings. The obstacle is that upholstery fabrics are far less forgiving than carpet, and the wrong method causes shrinkage, browning, dye bleed, water rings and pile distortion.
We identify fiber content and read the manufacturer cleaning code, then test each fabric and any contrasting welting or trim for colorfastness in an inconspicuous area before proceeding. Cleaning is then performed by the appropriate method: controlled hot water extraction with low-moisture tooling for water-safe fabrics, dry solvent cleaning for solvent-only codes such as silk, rayon, viscose and many blends, and specialized processes for leather including cleaning and conditioning. Cushions, decking, skirts and frames are addressed, not just the visible seating surfaces.
Accelerated drying with air movement prevents the water marking and musty odor that follow slow drying. We treat pet odor and urine at the padding level rather than the surface, apply stain protection where the fabric accepts it, and deodorize as part of the process on smoke and odor losses. Upholstery cleaning is coordinated with contents restoration, on site or through pack-out, depending on the scope of the project.
