We document room by room before anything is moved, capturing photographs and video of the space as found, then itemizing each article with description, brand and model where identifiable, quantity, age, condition and a salvage determination of restorable, questionable or non-salvageable. Items are barcoded or tagged and tracked through the entire process, so the location and status of every article is known from pack-out through cleaning, storage and return. High-value articles including jewelry, art, electronics, collectibles and antiques are documented separately and, where appropriate, routed to specialists.
The finished inventory is delivered in the format adjusters actually work with, with supporting photographs attached line by line, so it can be reviewed and approved without weeks of back-and-forth over what was in the room. It supports both the restoration scope for items being cleaned and the total loss schedule for items being replaced, and it gives you a defensible position if the contents settlement is questioned. You also keep a permanent record of your property and its pre-loss condition, which is worth having long after this claim is closed.
