Plastic sheeting taped to a doorway is not containment. Real dust-proof containment is an engineered barrier system with a sealed perimeter, a rigid or tensioned frame, a controlled entry and a managed pressure relationship. It is what keeps demolition dust, silica, lead and asbestos particulate, mold spores and construction debris out of occupied space, and it is a requirement in occupied homes, hospitals, schools, laboratories, food service and multi-tenant commercial buildings.
We build barriers using fire-retardant polyethylene sheeting on adjustable spring pole or temporary stud framing, or modular hard-wall panel systems where the duration, appearance or traffic load calls for it. Perimeters are sealed to floor, wall and ceiling, and every penetration is detailed: door frames, ceiling grid, duct openings, pipe chases, floor transitions and elevator lobbies. Entry is through a zippered doorway or a multi-stage decontamination chamber with tacky mats. Where the barrier interfaces with a fire-rated or egress path, we design it to keep required exits and life safety systems functional.
Containment is paired with negative air machines sized to the volume so the enclosure is held at negative pressure relative to surrounding space, verified with a manometer and monitored throughout the project. Barriers are inspected daily and repaired immediately if compromised. At completion, containment is taken down under controlled conditions with the area still under negative pressure, then the space is HEPA vacuumed and detail cleaned.
