Attic insulation must be removed rather than topped up when it has been wet, contaminated by rodent or bat activity, saturated with smoke residue, colonized by mold, or compressed and settled below its rated performance. Adding new insulation over compromised material traps the contamination, blocks inspection of the deck and framing, and delivers a fraction of the thermal performance being paid for.
Removal is performed under containment with HEPA-filtered vacuum extraction and negative air so debris and contaminants do not enter living space. With the deck and framing exposed we inspect and correct what was hidden: active leaks, moisture staining and fungal growth on sheathing, damaged or unsupported wiring, disconnected exhaust ducts, missing ventilation baffles and air leakage at top plates, can lights and penetrations. Air sealing is completed before new insulation goes in, because insulation installed over an unsealed ceiling plane underperforms and drives condensation.
New insulation is installed to the specified R-value with verified depth and full coverage, keeping required clearances at heat-producing fixtures and maintaining soffit-to-ridge airflow. The result is even temperatures between floors, reduced HVAC runtime and cost, and an attic that is no longer a moisture and odor reservoir. You receive documentation of material removed, corrections made, product and R-value installed, and coverage depth verification.
