Drapery Cleaning

Careful cleaning for window treatments that hang straight
Fabrics That Punish the Wrong Method

Draperies collect airborne soil, cooking residue, smoke, dust and odor continuously, and because the change is gradual most people do not notice until the fabric is cleaned. They are also among the easiest household textiles to ruin. Lined draperies, silk, rayon and blended fabrics shrink, water-spot, lose body or separate from their linings when cleaned by the wrong method, and the damage is not reversible.

Fiber Testing and Appropriate Cleaning

We identify fiber content, lining construction, dye stability and existing condition before selecting a process, and we test for colorfastness and shrinkage potential. Depending on the results we use on-site dry cleaning, which cleans the drapery in place without taking it down and avoids the shrinkage risk of wet processes, or take-down cleaning with careful measurement, off-site processing and professional rehanging and steaming. Pleats, headings and hems are protected throughout so the drapery returns with its original hang and shape.

Restoration Work

For fire and smoke losses we combine cleaning with deodorization to remove the odor absorbed into the fabric, which is one of the most persistent sources of lingering smoke smell in a restored home. We also clean valances, sheers, roman shades, cornices, blinds and shutters, and coordinate this work with contents restoration so window treatments are finished and rehung as the property is returned to use.
