A significant share of the damage on restoration and renovation projects is caused by the project itself: equipment traffic, dropped tools, dragged materials, dollies, foot traffic and construction debris ground into finished floors. Hardwood, natural stone, tile, polished concrete, luxury vinyl and carpet that survived the original loss are frequently damaged during the work, and that damage is rarely covered by the claim.
We select protection by flooring type and by the load it will actually see. Hardwood and finished wood receive breathable protection that does not trap moisture or react with the finish, since non-breathable film over wood can cause discoloration and finish damage. High-traffic paths and equipment routes receive rigid or heavy-duty board protection over an underlayment rather than film alone. Carpet is protected with self-adhesive protective film. Stone, tile and polished concrete receive cushioned protection to absorb impact. Stair treads, thresholds, corners, door casings, cabinetry and countertops are protected as well.
Protection is inspected and repaired throughout the project as traffic patterns change, because protection that has shifted or torn provides nothing. Adhesive products are removed within their rated exposure window so they do not bond to or damage the finish. At completion the protection is removed, the floors are inspected and cleaned, and the pre-existing condition documentation taken at the start is used to confirm the floors are returned as found.
